Events Help

You will notice on this page that every entry contains a TAG at the end, which is the name of the group.  You will also see two drop down arrows in the search facility.

Click on the down arrow next to NAME and then click on TAG

Click on the down arrow next to IS and then click on CONTAINS : now trying adding the name of the group you are interested in.

You can try experimenting with other items under the drop down menus, but the above suggestions are the quickest and most reliable.

    This is the title of a new book, published in August 2018, written and researched by Karen Cliff, Trafford Local Studies, and a group of volunteers. Norine Loftus is one of the volunteers. The book is part of the First World War (1914-1918) centenary commemoration. It is the fascinating story of the men of Chapel Street, Altrincham (off Regent Road) who volunteered to fight in the First World War. You may have a family which has stayed in one area for generations, or a family the members of which have roamed over the United Kingdom or even worldwide. All are of interest. **** There will a free raffle. The prize is a book highly recommended by David Johnson "The Family Historian's Enquire Within" by Janet Few. The book is being supplied by David. Raffle tickets will be issued at the door. ****

    Full details of visit and meeting place to be announced. John Rylands (1801-1888) was an entrepreneur and philanthropist. He owned the largest textile manufacturing concern in the UK and was Manchester's first multi-millionaire. In memory of her husband, Enriqueta Rylands founded The John Rylands Library. Enriqueta negotiated and purchased the 2nd Earl Spencer's library and further collections of manuscripts. The library was inaugurated on 6th October 1899, the anniversary of her marriage. On the same day, she was admitted to the Freedom of the City of Manchester, the first woman to receive this honour. The library opened to readers and visitors on 1st January 1900.
