The Research Centre provides a wide range of facilities to help you with your research.
Our team of Duty Volunteers is there to help you make the most of the facilities on offer
and to give you help and advice.

Although the bulk of our resources relate to Cheshire, we also have some records for contiguous counties
and facilities for UK-wide searches.

There are six computers with Internet access and we have subscriptions to
Findmypast, Ancestry and The Genealogist
These databases are not available on all of our computers
but there is no extra charge to use them.

Remember, there is different data on these three main subscription databases!
It's always worth checking all three of them if you are searching for a specific event.

There are also film and fiche readers for viewing our large collection of Cheshire parish registers
and monumental inscriptions, plus many interesting fiche from other counties.
There is a collection of CDs and other records, now available on the computers via an external hard drive.

We have an extensive library with many fascinating books. Our sections include books on Cheshire, other counties, one-name studies, directories, military and information books to help with your research.  We also have a large document collection, including wills and a collection of original documents with surname indexes.

Please try and come for a visit, you will be made most welcome by our friendly volunteers and you never know, you may just find that elusive ancestor.  Please note we are located on the first floor and we regret there is no lift.
