Events Help

You will notice on this page that every entry contains a TAG at the end, which is the name of the group.  You will also see two drop down arrows in the search facility.

Click on the down arrow next to NAME and then click on TAG

Click on the down arrow next to IS and then click on CONTAINS : now trying adding the name of the group you are interested in.

You can try experimenting with other items under the drop down menus, but the above suggestions are the quickest and most reliable.

Kate Booth will be coming along to demonstrate our Local History Forum's project for the 2nd Anniversary of PETERLOO, possibly reading the story or play she has written and the BANNER members have created. I have read both and they are excellent. Our Local History Forum is also creating a pack to go into schools. Stalybridge Old Band led the procession on the day and they have found their original sheet music. The hope to put on a concert locally.

A book full of new insights about Sir Neville Cardus, who transformed cricket writing while also a music critic. You will learn who his father was (Neville didn’t know), about his mother (and why the man she lived with was sent to jail) and when Neville changed his name from Fred. Cardus Uncovered traces his early cricket articles and includes examples of his superb writing, but reveals contradictions and errors. It also covers his writing on music, for the Daily Citizen as well as the Manchester Guardian. And much more, such as the Test cricket he wrote about but didn’t see! The book exposes disagreement at the Manchester Guardian about whether he should report on the 1953 Tests. Not forgetting his unusual marriage and his mistress in the 1930s. This book gets to the facts about Neville Cardus and transforms our understanding of his life and work. Christopher lives in Nottingham and so this will have to be an afternoon talk to allow him travelling time.
