Website Refresh

fhsclogo

I have just finished a small refresh of the website. I am keen to gather your views on whether its an improvement or not.

The changes are as follows:

- a new look to the home page to stress the latest news

- new shop launched a few days ago

- new look to the Events section last month

- removal of some of the sub menus in favour of new menus on the left of the screen (more to come)

- removal of a few unused options

- move of links from top menu to the research page

Please use the comments option attached to this news item to provide feddback to me.

Thanks

Alan - Webmaster

Looking better but I do think having 2 menu bars across the top of the page can be confusing to users who are not confident with computers. I like the idea of the separate columns for events and links you have done but the news area in the centre is maybe a little too wide, perhaps if it was a bit narrower the Upcoming Events column could have more room. Also I don't suppose many people use their mobile phone to access the website but just out of interest I tried it on mine and the home page looks curiously bare, it doesn't even have the name of the society on it, not sure what you could do about that. Sorry to go on a bit but you did ask for feedback!

Update
As part of todays changes we are down to a single menu bar unless you are a committee member.
Mobile display also improved.
More to come.

Shop Currency in Shop Incorrect display from IP Look Up
I use a VPN to connect to the internet. When I am connected via London, the prices are displayed as USD$. I tried Belgium too and then I got GBP£ rather than Euros. In both cases IP Address Location look up confirms 1.) that I am in London and not the USA and 2) I'm in Belgium and not the UK.
The issue is made worse by the fact I cannot then change the currency back to the correct one by clicking on the buttons to the left of the screen.
Finally as a general comment I believe this default font is much too small for a website and particularly so for users who are generally likely to fall into the "elder" category.
Hope this helps.

Auto Currency
Thanks

I assume there is something different when hosted over VPN as to why the auto IP detection isn't working.

I have turned off the auto detection so that you can now select your currency of choice.

I like it! It seems much clearer to me. I like that you've moved some of the sub menus to the left-hand side. The font on the right side is very faint though - could do with being darker to be clear. But on the whole I think it's a big improvement...well done!

Website refresh - shop
Items for sale are very clearly displayed. However when you click on an item writing small and faint. I was also surprised at how few items were on display when I first clicked on Shop - then realised it was only the latest items which were displayed. Maybe all items should be shown when Shop is first clicked?

Shop
Thanks, the recent items was chosen deliberately so as to let customers know what was new.

Font issues have not been addressed yet but keep watching.

UPDATE There is now a better way to see the new products so the default has been changed,

Not had time to look at everything but the website looks fresher. I still think the font is too faint - the darker font Margaret Roberts uses is easier to read

Monthly Newsletter
I like the side bar, but although you have news on the home page, I still can't find the Monthly Newsletter, perhaps I'm not looking in the right place.
