in Cheshire

Tameside Metropolitan Borough was created in 1974 from the following towns:

•    Ashton-under-Lyne
•    Audenshaw
•    Denton
•    Droylsden
•    Dukinfield
•    Hyde
•    Mossley
•    Mottram-in-Longdendale
•    Stalybridge

We are the only family history group meeting in Tameside and act as a focal point for the whole of the borough.  Tameside straddles the Lancashire/Cheshire border with half of the towns actually in Lancashire. This can create some rather complex boundary issues when dealing with pre Tameside sources and parishes.

From January 2025 our group's regular meetings will be delivered via ZOOM only.  I hope this will give all our Tameside members the opportunity to ZOOM in from all over the world.  These meetings will be informal with topics generated from within our members, hoping this way to help and share bewtween us.  I will be sending out an email about ten days before each meeitng asking who wants to join in.  I hope lots of you will attend and that we can make a success of our new venture.

We are now back in Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre on the first and third Tuesdays of each month there to help anyone on a one-to-one basis either to start your family history or to solve queries, no need to book just call in between 2.00pm and 4.00pm-
