Tameside Metropolitan Borough was created in 1974 from the following towns:

•    Ashton-under-Lyne
•    Audenshaw
•    Denton
•    Droylsden
•    Dukinfield
•    Hyde
•    Mossley
•    Mottram-in-Longdendale
•    Stalybridge

Please note that for the time being whilst the pandemic has not gone away, our society will not be restarting meetings or opening our research libraries until January at the earliest.
We are the only family history group meeting in Tameside and act as a focal point for the whole of the borough.  Tameside straddles the Lancashire/Cheshire border with half of the towns actually in Lancashire. This can create some rather complex boundary issues when dealing with pre Tameside sources and parishes.

Our Group meets on the second Wednesday evening of each month (not August) in the schoolrooms at Old Chapel Dukinfield, opening our doors at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Refreshments are served on arrival. Sadly due to recent increased costs we now have an entry charge of £2.00 for members and £2.50 for non members. For more details of our group's up and coming meetings see our events page.

We also run an "Family Tree Detectives" session at Tameside Local Studies and Archives Library on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, chiefly aimed at beginners in family history or those who may have hit a brickwall. We also issue a monthly newsletter, at present sent to my personal group mailing list, but it is hoped will be issued via this web mail in future, so add Tameside to your Groups.

Our old Dukinfield Group surname list has had to move and can now be found at http://tamesidefamilyhistory.co.uk/surnames.htm
