in Cheshire

Tameside Metropolitan Borough was created in 1974 from the following towns:

•    Ashton-under-Lyne
•    Audenshaw
•    Denton
•    Droylsden
•    Dukinfield
•    Hyde
•    Mossley
•    Mottram-in-Longdendale
•    Stalybridge

We are the only family history group meeting in Tameside and act as a focal point for the whole of the borough.  Tameside straddles the Lancashire/Cheshire border with half of the towns actually in Lancashire. This can create some rather complex boundary issues when dealing with pre Tameside sources and parishes.

NEW - We now meet on the fourth Thursday afternoon of each month at the https://www.4cashton.org.uk/ in Ashton open from 1.00pm to start at 1.30pm.  Our meetings are a mix of Hybrid and Face to Face talks and workshops.  There is usually adequate parking, full disabled access and a cafe.https://www.4cashton.org.uk/cafe

We are now back in Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre on the first and third Tuesdays of each month there to help anyone on a one-to-one basis either to start your family history or to solve queries, no need to book just call in between 2.00pm and 4.00pm-
