The Research Centre provides a wide range of facilities to help you with your research
Our team of Duty Volunteers is there to help you make the most of the facilities on offer.
Although the bulk of our resources relate to Cheshire, we also have some records for contiguous counties and some facilities for UK-wide searches.

We have seven computers with Internet access, with subscriptions to Find MyPast which includes the 1939 Register and the1911 census, Ancestry and The Genealogist. There is no charge to use these research programmes.

There are also a number of film/fiche readers for viewing our large collection of Cheshire parish registers and monumental Inscriptions plus many interesting fiche from other counties. There is a collection of CDs and other records, now available on the computers via an external hard drive.

We have an extensive library with many fascinating books. Our sections include books on Cheshire, other counties, one-name studies, directories, military and information books to help with your research. We also have a large document collection, including wills and a collection of original documents with surname indexes.

Please try and come for a visit, you will be made most welcome by our friendly volunteers and you never know, you may just find that elusive ancestor. Please note we are located on the first floor and we regret there is no lift.

Admission of members
Members should preferably bring their membership card with them but if necessary membership status can be checked on arrival. There is an admission charge of £3 per visit. This helps towards our running costs but includes tea or coffee as required and free parking on Ilford Way at the side of the building. Our rules are similar to those at most record offices and will be pointed out to you on arrival. Lockers are available for personal belongings and small bags etc, but please do not bring large bags to the Research Centre.

Admission of non-members
Non-members are welcome, but preferably should make a booking by telephoning the centre on 01565 872210 during normal opening hours. The cost of entry for a non-member will be £5 per visit. If the visitor joins our society on the day of the visit, the entry charge will be refunded. Non-members will be required to sign a form of agreement to abide by our regulations upon entry to the centre.
