Plot B208-9 James Prescott Joule (1818-1889) famous physicist, mathematician, and brewer born in Salford. The "772.55" on the gravestone is a reference to his discovery -Wherever mechanical force is expended an exact equivalent of heat is always obtained.

Plot A144-145 Alfred Knowles (died 1880) a master cotton spinner. He moved to Northenden Rd, Sale in 1869. Earlier he had shared a house in Chorlton-on-Medlock with Friedrich Engles.

Brooklands Cemetery Old Part viewed from Marsland Rd. This public cemetery was opened in 1862 on land purchased by Sale Township. Previously, people from Sale and Ashton had been buried in church cemeteries at St Martin's and at St Mary's, Bowdon.
