A collection of transcriptions from:

- St James (Sutton)

- Langley Methodist Chapel

A transcription of over 300 graves in Sweteenham parish  church

This transcription appears to have been carried out in 2002-3 but it has only came to light in 2019. One or two pages have been retyped and errors noted in margins corrected. An index to the churchyard inscriptions has been added in 2019. There was no grave plan with the transcription.

There is evidence of a church on this site from 1287 and two chapels date from the 15th century. The Church was completely rebuilt between 1861 and 1878
Notable families in the history of the church are the Done Family, Crewe Family and the Arderne Family.

St. Helen's Church, Tarporley has parish registers beginning in 1558.

Tarporley is a small market 10 miles from Chester

Tarporley Parish includes the townships of Eaton, Rushton and Utkinson.

As well as transcriptions of the memorials in the graveyard this file contains some  maps, photos.

Work on the memorial inscriptions for Upton by Chester Holy Ascension was carried out by Hartley Jones, a member of the Family History Society of Cheshire, and a team of transcribers around 1981. His notes and churchyard diagrams however were not typed up and were amongst the folders belonging to Tarporley Group handed in when that Group closed. On closer inspection it seems there is a named grave plan for the whole of the churchyard done by Hartley Jones but only the older part of the graveyard was transcribed. It was felt that this work, done around 1981, should be published.
Most of the graveyard plans were done on the backs of previously used paper and scanning was an issue as the back type showed through. Consequently, the quality of exposure varies. As there was no overall graveyard plan showing the church and actual positions of the grave sections I have just named them in relation to north, south and west. The inscriptions all relate to the south section of the graveyard. There were no graveyard numbers just row numbers. I have copied these as they were transcribed. The memorials inside the church are also included.
It is now nearly 40 years since these grave plans and transcriptions were done and some of these graves may no longer be visible; some may have been removed, broken, sunk into the ground, or have eroded. This transcription could, therefore, be of great value in confirming family information and links to other family members.

A Transcript of the Monumental Inscriptions

The memorial inscriptions wereoriginally transcribed by the ladies of Willaston W.I. in 1984. In 2015 these original, handwritten, transcriptions were checked (and corrected where necessary), by Bebington Family History Group. Additions to the memorials,since 1984, were recorded and these additions are indicated in the transcriptions by prefixing them with “2015:”. The names recorded on the memorials were then indexed. However, as we also had access to the burial index we have included some names from this index that are not on the headstone. These names are indicated in our name index by a “#” after the Christian name. A diagrammatic plan of the churchyard produced and all of the grave plots were photographed.
