You will notice on this page that every entry contains a TAG at the end, which is the name of the group.  You will also see two drop down arrows in the search facility.

Click on the down arrow next to NAME and then click on TAG

Click on the down arrow next to IS and then click on CONTAINS : now trying adding the name of the group you are interested in.

You can try experimenting with other items under the drop down menus, but the above suggestions are the quickest and most reliable.

Historical newspapers are a fascinating record and are fast becoming the go to resource for the family historian, learning about the world in which your ancestors lived and how some very familiar historical events unfolded at the time. The newspapers may be the only clue you have to find out about a brick wall ancestor, with many records having been lost or destroyed over the years, even the smallest personal story can be a godsend and prove just as important as names, dates and relationships.

Old newspapers are an amazing treasure trove of otherwise hidden information and whether you are just starting out with your newspaper research or have been doing it for some time - how do you get the most out of every search?  In this masterclass Margaret will share hints and tips on how to carry out an effective search of the old newspapers online as well as methods of saving and filing your research. By carrying out ‘live searches’, Margaret will illustrate how using different search parameters demonstrably modifies the results you gain, there will also be lots of opportunity for you to ask questions.

Once you know the best tricks to use, locating your ancestors becomes a lot easier and maybe even unlock important secrets about your family history. Come along to this free session hosted by the Crewe & Nantwich groups of the Family History Society of Cheshire. It’s a worthwhile masterclass and whatever your level of expertise you will be glad you did it.
