Events Help

You will notice on this page that every entry contains a TAG at the end, which is the name of the group.  You will also see two drop down arrows in the search facility.

Click on the down arrow next to NAME and then click on TAG

Click on the down arrow next to IS and then click on CONTAINS : now trying adding the name of the group you are interested in.

You can try experimenting with other items under the drop down menus, but the above suggestions are the quickest and most reliable.

    This evening Gordon Longworth will be recounting his research into the lives and deaths of two WW1 soldiers, one his great uncle and one who died on the last day of the war. His book "Where the Poppies Weep" was published earlier this year.

    Our December meeting will follow the traditional Xmas format - a social evening for which we contribute the seasonal fare ourselves, combined with a short talk by one of our own. We shall be requesting contributions for the food table near the time.

    The Bramhall Group was recently given a local autograph book dating from 1915. Janet & David Phillips, who in recent years have been organising our programme of talks, have themselves taken the first slot of the year to tell us what their investigations have uncovered.

    Steve Cliffe of Stockport Heritage will be making a welcome return visit to talk to us about the White and the Dark Peaks, where Derbyshire, Staffs, Cheshire & Yorkshire meet. They have always been a place apart, which abounds with legends. They were home to Neanderthals, Ice Age reindeer hunters, Celtic chieftains, Romans, medieval outlaws and saintly hermits, who variously utilised caves as homes, hunting lodges, contemplative cells and sepulchres for the dead.
