Events Help

You will notice on this page that every entry contains a TAG at the end, which is the name of the group.  You will also see two drop down arrows in the search facility.

Click on the down arrow next to NAME and then click on TAG

Click on the down arrow next to IS and then click on CONTAINS : now trying adding the name of the group you are interested in.

You can try experimenting with other items under the drop down menus, but the above suggestions are the quickest and most reliable.

This talk centres around Martin’s best-selling book ‘Christmas and the British: A Modern History’, in which he illustrates how Christmas and its traditions have been lived, adapted, and thought about in Britain since 1914.     Walkden Gardens are an almost secret set of gardens off Derbyshire Road, Sale. Rob Frier, a garden volunteer, will give a talk about how the gardens came into being. (There are pictures of Walkden Gardens in the Sale Group "Sale Library"; look in "Sale Images" and then in the "Photos" file.)

    Considering the involvement of the estate in wars from medieval times to the twentieth century including the Battle of Poitiers, the English Civil War and the Second World War. Particular attention is given to the military occupation of the estate during the Second World War and its use as a prisoner of war camp.
