Lest We Forget This is an ongoing project and will continue to be up-dated Kate Booth has been collecting names from all the War Memorials in Tameside for a number of years now and they are now compiled into a global list. They have been gathered from various sources and some have much more information about the casualties researched by various people over the years. Kate has photographs of most of these memorials and should be able to send out to anyone interested.  Her index is contained in an 81 page document downloaded from the following website: http://www.tamesidefamilyhistory.co.uk

Sally Ann Matthews came to visit Tameside Local Studies Library to thank members of our Tameside Group for our research which helped create a paper trail for her DNA results linking her to Corrie Legend Amanda Barrie.

The Friends of Clayton Hall looked after us extremely well and all, I think, enjoyed the day.  What they have achieved since they took over the house is amazing.  The house is not like some great mansion but feels warm and cosy and lived in.  It feels as if you could just move in and be comfortable.

  With regard to the above named our Audenshaw Local History Society is looking to place a marble which we rescued from Red Hall church some number of years ago prior to demolition. It would be the icing on the cake if we can have a descendant/family member to unveil the monument. Would it be possible for an appeal go out on the Forums Facebook/website for an appeal for anyone with any information. We are currently looking towards the Monday 27th March for the ceremony the venue is Ryecroft Hall Audenshaw for installation. 
John Ousey was an elder of the original old Red Hall chapel which is now beneath the waters of the reservoirs in Audenshaw. He departed this life 10th November 1873 in the 75th year of his age. He was 75 years of age so born in 1799. He was what we would call today registrar for Audenshaw, Littlemoss Droylsden, and lived at Jasamine Cottage, which has now sadly been demolished.
His remains (together with other family members) were removed from the grounds in the Old Hall Chapel then Re-interned in the grounds of the new Red Hall Chapel on Audenshaw road Audenshaw in July 1877. The grave is still there today now in the small cemetery of the new building of Trinity Church.

Bob Kirk might remember that he was the Registrar at the beginning of Civil Registration and could often spell names in three separate ways in the same entry.

I did know an Ousey descendant many years ago who lived in Australia, but lost touch with her about 15 years ago.

Tameside's Jewel in the Crown for Family Historians.  In addition to the normal deposits that most local archives hold eg parish register microflims, newspapers, maps, trade directories etc our Tamesdie Local Studies Library holds major depostis for the Manchester Regiment, Tameside Magistrates Courts, Hospital records, Earl of Stamford Estate Papers and all the gathered archives for the nine towns which made up Tameside.{rscomments on}

ALL Births, Marriages and Deaths registered in Tameside and currently held at Tameside Register Office have been indexed by a team from our Tameside Family History Group.  A total of 1.8 million entries.  This should be your first place to look since we were given permission by the Registrar to put all the Mothers' Maiden Names in all entries right from the start of Civil Registration (1837), similarly the age at death.  We also included the wife's maiden name in all marriage entries and any previous names mentioned in the records.  For Marriages we included where they got married and its worth checking whether the records for that church or chapel have been microfilmed and are available to search at Tameside Local Studies and Archives Library: 0161 342 4242  This could save you having to buy the certificate. www.cheshirebmd.org.uk

Joint Project to research the names on the Ashton Grammar School War Memorial and to create a drama based on this research. This will be performed by the current students of Ashton Sixth Form College and will be filmed and shown at Portland Basin Museum.
