RAY MILLER SEAMAN ROWLAND

RAY MILLER

HISTORICAL NEWSPAPER REPORTS

By Linda Wilding

Ray’s career began in 1945 as a copy boy, for the sum of 17s 6d a week. He would cycle to and from across the Railway bridge to deliver stories to the sub-editor at the Weekly News Office.

70 years later in 2015 Ray finally retired; during the latter part of his career Ray worked less hours, and we all came to love and read his popular page, of by gone history in our Weekly News. It brought back to life the Town we all missed and loved, and people we had lost touch with.

Over the next months I will be scanning some of Ray's reports, which I have kept over the years.

Ray has given me permission to do this and is pleased that you will all get to read his work again!

The World War One Commemoration and the Unveiling of the Statue Of our local Hero
Private Thomas Alfred Jones.

It was a beautiful summer’s morning well attended by our local Town to show their respect and gratitude not only for "Todger" but for all the men and women he represented in other conflicts.
