Lest We Forget - Tameside

Lest We Forget

This is an ongoing project and will continue to be up-dated

Kate Booth has been collecting names from all the War Memorials in Tameside for a number of years now and they are now compiled into a global list. They have been gathered from various sources and some have much more information about the casualties researched by various people over the years. Kate has photographs of most of these memorials and should be able to send out to anyone interested.

Her index is contained in an 81 page document downloaded from the following website: http://www.tamesidefamilyhistory.co.uk

Chester Record Office Survey

I wonder if you could distribute this (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CALSusers) to FHSC members in whatever way you think best? It’s a short survey which will help to inform the planning of new facilities and the new service. We will be looking at the results in February and building them into the HLF bid.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best wishes

Paul

News from the GRO - PDF Certificates extended trial

Below is today's news from the GRO: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

General Register Office (GRO) - PDF Extended Pilot

The GRO is piloting a service from 12 October 2017 to provide portable document format (PDF) copies of digitised historical birth and death records. The pilot will run for a minimum of 3 months to enable GRO to assess the demand for this service over a prolonged period.

Applications for each PDF cost £6, must be made online, and include a GRO index reference.

England and Wales records which are available as PDFs in this extended pilot include:

Births: 1837 –1916
Deaths: 1837 –1957

Note: A PDF is not a certificate and has no “evidential” value, and therefore a certificate is required for official purposes, e.g. applying for a passport, driving licence or giving notice of marriage.

Indexes

Have you used our Online Historical Birth and Death Indexes yet? They may include extra information, for example; maiden name or age at death.
