Northwich and the surrounding villages played a vital and largely unrecognised or forgotten role in the war years from 1939 - 1945. Local industries had to support the national war economy.

At Plumley was the secret 'jam' factory that made the vital additives that increased the power of aircraft engines. Prototype secret weapons were tested at Marbury and Wincham.
