Research Centre

The Research Centre provides a wide range of facilities to help you with your research
Our team of Duty Volunteers is there to help you make the most of the facilities on offer.
Although the bulk of our resources relate to Cheshire, we also have some records for contiguous counties and some facilities for UK-wide searches.

We have seven computers with Internet access, three of which have which includes the 1911 census and another one with access to The Genealogist . We also have a subscription to, Worldwide edition, which is available to view on two computers. There is no charge to use these research programmes.

There are also a number of film/fiche readers for viewing our large collection of Cheshire parish registers plus many interesting fiche which include Probate records up to 1943

We have an extensive library with many fascinating books, some of them for counties other than Cheshire.

Please try and come for a visit, you will be made most welcome by our friendly volunteers and you never know, you may just find that elusive ancestor. For more information on our holdings, please click on this link.

Admission of members
Members should preferably bring their membership card with them but if necessary membership status can be checked on arrival. There is an admission charge of £3 per visit. This helps towards our running costs but includes tea or coffee as required and free parking on Ilford Way at the side of the building. Our rules are similar to those at most record offices and will be pointed out to you on arrival. Lockers are available for personal belongings and small bags etc, but please do not bring large bags to the Research Centre.

Admission of non-members
Non-members are now welcome but preferably should phone in advance to the centre on 01565 872210 during normal opening hours. The entry charge for non-members is  £5 per visit. If the visitor joins our society on the day of the visit, the entry charge will be refunded.

Every non-member will be required to sign a form of agreement to abide by our regulations upon entry to the centre. We reserve the right to refuse admission to the centre.
Non-member visits will be limited to 2 people at any one time.
