Rajar Building Formal Opening

Here are some photos for our members of the formal opening of our new research centre courtesy of our photographer for the day, Paul Simpson and Kay Brown. Click on photogallery in the main left-hand menu and then on the folder mobberleyopening. You will have to log in to our website to view them

What a great opening do we had yesterday at Mobberley.

Pictures by our photography experts have already been circulated and are here on our website.  There should also be a video of the event for posterity.

The Mayor, Cheshire East Councillor Roger West, made the opening speech, followed by a welcome by the Chairman of Mobberley Parish Council, Councillor David Bailey.  Jonathan Pepler, our County Archivist then spoke about the long and successful relationship between the County Record Office and our society.  Finally our chairman thanked local people for their welcome and members for the excellent work done for relocation of our facilities to Mobberley.

The Mayor seemed to enjoy himself and said he was impressed by our version of the ‘big society’.  Some of our duty volunteers did a quick search and produced a ‘family tree’ for him in just a few minutes.

Volunteers lent a hand with all aspects of the afternoon and there were displays of all kinds, including promoting our society and the research centre, plots, books for sale and so on.  Joan Irving our Librarian and Alan Jones, Research Management Committee, researched and produced a display of the family history of Brian Caveney whose ancestors owned the land on which the Rajar was built.

The afternoon was well supported by other local family and social history groups and by the Mobberley community including members of the Parish Council and the Mobberley Village Society

Please do visit as soon as you can.  A group summer visit might be considered by group leaders too.
