It was agreed at our AGM 14 September 2011 to change our name to the Tameside Group of the Family History Society of Cheshire. Minutes, and Reports were circulated prior to the meeting. I had three emails from people who couldn't attend agreeing to the proposal. On the night 27 people attended and the vote was unanimous apart from three abstentions..
Our group was initially set up by members of FHSC who lived in Dukinfield - none of these people now attend out meetings - they have all moved on. We have six members now living in Dukinfield only two of which continue to attend meetings. When the group was originally set up it was agreed they would cover the whole of Tameside. Over the last few years we have had to explain to people who attend our help desk sessions and to my students that the group is not just for people who live in Dukinfield. Hoping the change of name will make things much clearer and hopefully attract new members.
