Our May Meeting:

I’m feeling lots better so I am still hoping to arrange a visit for our May meeting – a guided tour of the Fairfield Moravian Settlement. This is rather late in the day to arrange so we may still have to have a question and answer session, with demonstrations of effective searching. I’ll keep you all informed by email.  If you are new today and want to become a member of my email group to be informed of future meetings, make sure you add your email to the signing in sheet.

I am pleased to say that I now have volunteer chauffeurs to all the Society meetings I need to attend this year.

Tameside BMD Project:

Births: Replaced 39,639 for Hartshead, registers at Tameside (1837-1897) to add mother's maiden name. Soon the birth registrations for Dukinfield sub registration district 1837-1897 will be replaced to include mother’s maiden name. Mothers’ maiden names were added for Mottram, Newton, Godley and Stayley some time ago.

1911 Scottish Census was released at 11.00am 5^th April:

Does anyone have any feedback of using it yet?

Overseas births and marriages fully indexed by findmypast:

The GRO indexes of overseas births and marriages have now been fully indexed by findmypast - previously you would have been provided with a list of pages that might include the surnames you are looking for. The indexes include:

  ·        British overseas births 1818-2005

·         Births at sea 1854-1887

·         British armed forces births 1761-2005

·         British overseas marriages 1818-2005

·         Marriages at sea 1854-1908

·         British armed forces marriages 1796-2005

Programme for 2010-2011:

May 11 – Visit still to be arranged – possibly “Fairfield Moravian Settlement”

June 8 – Keith Warrender – “Underground Manchester”

July 13 – Gordon Read – “Migration to the USA and Canada”

I will soon be planning our programme for 2011-2012, so please let me know if you have any particular requests and suggestions.

Meetings are held in the Old Chapel schoolrooms, Old Road, Dukinfield, on the second Wednesday of each month (except August), starting at 7.00 pm. £1.50 for members and £2.00 for non members, tea and coffee on arrival.
