Since November last year, many of our most popular family history records have been available online through our licence agreement with Find My Past. As we expected, this has had an impact on the number of visitors to the Searchroom. At the same time we must continue to make budget savings to meet our targets in the light of the national financial settlement.

There is more to see here if you are a member of our Society – some areas are only available to members, but you may be having problems logging in.
Our new website was launched in November 2008 and at that time anyone with a known email address was sent their individual log in details, and for new members these are automatically generated and sent to you by email. However, we all forget our passwords at times and forget to tell people when we change our email addresses. In order to log in our society MUST have your current email address, so if you have changed addresses recently or have never told us before please get in touch with Maurice Stokes via:

Have you seen the web-browser toolbar provided by MLFHS?
Did you ever think why dont we have one? Well now we do!!!!!!!
It will work if you use Internet Explorer or Firefox on Windows. If you have an Apple Mac then it only works with Safari.
You can download it here or from the new main menu item or from the banner at the bottom of the page. The banner is nice as it shows you how the toolbar looks.
Please download and use it as each use generates income for the society, not a lot but we like it.
Once you have it installed any new content will be automatically installed, so no need to re-install.
If you have any ideas for further content then let us know at

There are two new exhibitions in our search room:
· Wirral and the Titanic
This exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the disaster and looks at Wirral’s connection to the ship and specifically the local residents who were on board.
· History of Sport in Wirral
As 2012 looks set to be a summer of sport with the Olympics in London and the Euro 2012 football tournament, this smaller exhibition will look at Wirral’s sporting past.

Click to download the leaflet advertising the workshops to be held by Wirral Archives Service for next year. As you can see they have been moved to Thursday afternoons, owing to staffing concerns, but as before copies of the notes can be e-mailed to those who are unable to attend.

4550 Mile Genealogy Lecture without leaving Macclesfield
I have just participated in a brilliant long distance lecture on the benefits of the latest version of the FAMILYSEARCH search engine, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Victoria Road Macclesfield. (The LDS Church offered their facilities because our normal venue lacks an adequate Broadband connection.)
I was only just on time but the Car Park was totally full and I had to park on the roadside so on entering the hall it was no surprise to find the audience was slightly swelled from our usual numbers, a later head count established that 71 bodies had ventured out on a cold wet Autumn evening.

For all our members please log in and take a new look at our Research Resources
All the census indexes for the various areas in Cheshire 1841-1901 which were indexed by our society have now been uploaded together with a guide to finding Cheshire places in the UK Census 1841-1901 with film references at Chester RO and The National Archives. You could find that elusive ancestor which may have been missed by online websites.
There are a series of Research Guides about key topics in family history, two important Visitations of Cheshire for 1580 and 1613 and a guide to finding indexes to Monumental Inscriptions in our area.
If you are having problems logging in there is a separate article further down the page to help you.
