Meetings

The Wallasey Group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the YMCA, Manor Road, Wallasey (next door to Manor Community Centre Church) starting at 7.30pm.

In August, Roy Dennett recounted the harrowing tales of the Tranmere Workhouse. In September, Christina Spencer, the archivist for the Bibby Line, gave us the story of one of the world's oldest shipping companies still in private ownership and still based in Liverpool - 200 years old in 2007.

In October, Ron Davies spoke to us on his Welsh Connections and helped us understand a little more about patronymics. He recounted how his lead-mining ancestors from North Wales emigrated to Australia to find work.

Programme for 2007

  • May 15th - Bidston Observatory, by Peter Crawford.

  • June 19th - Palaeography, by Jan Craig.

Projects

The Wirral end of the Cheshire BMD project is progressing well and last year completed all births, marriages and deaths from 1837 to 1900.  Marriages from 1901 onwards are well under way and most of the Wirral churches are on-line up to the 1920s.

Working once again in conjunction with West Kirby Group, we also completed the MIs for St. Bartholomew, Thurstaston: these have now been published.
