The recent Exhibition of Local & Family History at the Heath Methodist Church Vista Rd Runcorn held jointly by the Runcorn & District Local History Society www.runcornhistsoc.org.uk & our Family History Group was unanimously described as a great success. It was very well attended. It is hoped by many that this will become an annual event so popular was it. We understand that unofficially it raised over £1,000 towards the Church Windows replacement appeal.

It certainly introduced both groups to many more people of the town. The photos by Roy Gough of the old town & people thereof proving to be a big attraction. & we were able to assist many people with their F/H research. Roy is a member of both groups & is an oustanding local photographer, we have a lot of Roy's photos on display at our weekly Help Desks (details.above)

One of the visitors brought with him what was thought to be a cannon ball about the size of a cricket ball & with a guessed weight of about 6-7lbs, & possibly ( but not proved of course) fired from Halton Castle during the Civil War, It was said to have been unearthed at the site of the old Wiggs Works on the North side of the Manchester Ship Canal..
