THE FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY OF CHESHIRE

COMPUTER GROUP

The FHSC Computer Group is open to all members of the Society, and we have regular meetings, where we keep up-to-date with the latest genealogical software and techniques. The Group aims to cater for all levels of experience, and our beginners' sessions attempt to coax those members who haven't even got round to unpacking their computers from their boxes!

The Group also produces its own quarterly newsletter, Net that Serf!, which is now sent out to all members with the Cheshire Ancestor. The editor of the Newsletter, Graham Fidler, welcomes articles submitted for publication to the Computer Group address shown above.

Meetings

The Group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at Hartford Methodist Church Hall, Beach Road, Hartford, starting at 7.30pm.

Recently we have had some very interesting evenings, dealing with the best way to access and handle the census information no available on- line; the use of macros in Excel to speed up data entry, especially for the BMD project; and tips and techniques for using Adobe Photoshop to spruce up your old photographs. The latter was so popular that we had a carry-on meeting on this subject in November. Further topics are usually decided at short notice, and reflect the members' immediate interests.

Lately the numbers attending have shown a slight decline, and this may well represent the changing nature of computers in genealogy in the ten years the club has been running. We have moved from a situation where the use of computers was new, to the present day when computer genealogy is commonplace. However, we cover interesting topics not dealt ith else here, and have room for more people to attend our monthly meetings at Hartford Methodist Hall on the second Wednesday of each month.

If you have any ideas as to what you would like to see in the next programme then please contact us at the address shown at the top of this page.

There are also local Computer Clubs run by the Chester and Macclesfield Groups of the Society.
