Synopsis -

This illustrated talk tells the story of the redecoration of the Tabley House dining room in 2008/09. It looks at how the room worked in the Victorian period; what the table was like and how diners got into the room. It tells the story of the visit of Queen Emma of Hawaii in 1865 who stayed at Tabley to visit Liverpool and Manchester. Lastly, it explores the lives of two men who worked in the dining room, John Lipscombe a butler and Obadiah Hewitt a footman and the clever boy next door.
