The main surname I have researched are the STANLEY/STANDLEY family from what is now, post 1974, Tameside. The earliest instance of this surname locally is Marget STANLEY from a custom roll and rental from Ashton-under-Lyne manor in 1422. No certainty that she is related, but the same surname crops up again in the precise vicinity in the 1600s. Then there is an awkward fifty year gap from 1713-1764 in the Old Chapel Dukinfield records which means I will never join my before and after family. Our earliest proven ancestor is Robert STANLEY born circa 1721 who had 18 children by 3 wives and 11 grandchildren called Robert, whose descendants form a huge clan. Some of their narrative is written on my personal family history website: gayandmike.co.uk I will be transferring some of this narrative to this website. It will include stories about the STANLEY family's involvement with the prophet/charlatan John Wroe and a Mayor who converted to Islam circa 1900, also on of the female lines related to the famous road builder John Metcalf alias 'Blind Jack' of Knaresborough.
My husbands paternal line are the OLIVERs originally from Kingsland in Herefordshire, via Diddlebury in Shropshire to Buxton and then Glossop in Derbyshire.
My maternal line are the PIETTEs from Brussels and my father's CULLEN line from Rathdrum in county Wicklow and Armagh in Northern Ireland.
I have recently been adding information from my granddaughter's maternal lines, LYNE, SISSONS, DAVIES, QUINTRELL and HOWARD, MADEN, O'PRAY.
